Our colleagues Rosa and Rafael, from Hilaturas Mar, had a prominent role at the final RegioGreenTex event, held last week in Brussels, a European project aimed at strengthening sustainability and recycling within the textile industry.

The event brought together nearly 100 participants from companies across Europe, policymakers, and representatives of the European Commission. It served not only as the closing of the project, but also as an opportunity to open new avenues for collaboration and development in the field of circular economy in textiles.
During the closing sessions, clusters and hubs integrated into RegioGreenTex, presented their contributions, the final project results, and web platforms designed to support textile sustainability in Europe. Practical recycling solutions across all textile sectors were also discussed, emphasizing the importance of efficient systems to reduce industrial and household wastes.
Rafael Barceló, Manager & Product Development of Hilaturas Mar, presented innovations in hybrid yarns made with recycled carbon fiber, developed in collaboration with UBITECH. These yarns make it possible to create high-performance fabrics that can be transformed into thermoformed products, expanding the applications of recycled fibers that were previously discarded.

During his presentation, he showcased several examples of technical yarns that are part of everyday life, such as:
Water filtration cartridges made from polypropilene yarns.
Aircraft carpets, resistents and flame-retardant, made with flame-retardant viscose yarns and fiberglass.
Vehicle clutch brakes, produced with para-aramid, fiberglass and copper.
Protective covers for motorcycle exhaust pipes, made from carbon fibers and resins, which require innovative solutions for recycling.
The pilot project, developed by Hilaturas Mar and Ubitech, has demonstrated that it is indeed possible to reuse recycled carbon fibers in high-performance fabrics, contributing to the circularity and sustainability of the European textile sector.
The sessions also included a visit to the European Parliament for the opening of the photo exhibition "Threads of Innovation - The RegioGreenTex Photo Exhibition", a black and white project by photographer Francesco Pacifici that visually captures the story of textile circularity in Europe.

At Hilaturas Mar we are grateful, for the opportunity, to take part in this project and we highlight the importance of collaboration, innovation and sustainability in the industry. A truly enriching experience that concluded in Brussels and has been an inspiration for continuing to develop responsible and efficient solutions in the sector.
